Chip and Joanna’s Holiday Target Collection Has Dropped! 7 Must-Haves and a Few to Skip

For many people, the holiday season starts the moment they toss that rotting jack-o’-lantern in the trash. We’re mere days past Halloween, but our ears perked up when we heard that the newest holiday collection for Chip and Joanna Gaines‘ Target home decor line, Hearth & Hand with Magnolia, was about to drop. The festive new loot landed in stores and online on Sunday, and you know we had to check out the goods.

Well, it should come as a surprise to no one that the wildly popular “Fixer Upper” duo—known for their rustic yet contemporary approach to home design—brings us yet another collection that we (for the most part) can’t wait to get our hands on. It’s decor you could envision Joanna using to adorn her own modern farmhouse in Waco, TX, which is part of the reason why folks flock to the Hearth & Hand line in the first place.

For those of us who want to bring a little piece of Chip and Jo’s aesthetic home this holiday season, the newest collection includes Christmas-themed decorations, gifts for the whole family (even pets!), and festive home furnishings.

Price points start gently, with disposable beverage napkins ($1.99 per set, Target) that are ideal for entertaining, and going up to higher-priced items like a jute striped rug with fringe ($400, Target).

But with so much on offer, how do you find the hidden gems? To help, we’ve asked some decorating and organizing professionals to suss out the best finds as well as the ones that aren’t worth the cash. First, let’s start with the products we plan on pouncing on ASAP.

1. Milk glass cake stand

These cake stands come in two sizes and are great for displaying baked goods and organizing countertops.

Jamie Novak, an organizing whiz and author of “Keep This Toss That,” leapt at these milk glass cake stands because of their versatility (from $15, Target).

“Besides using them to serve cake, you can use a stand on a buffet to elevate other foods, display pillar candles, or you could place it on a bathroom vanity to hold everyday essentials,” she says.

2. Faux white pine wreath

A faux wreath means no needles to vacuum!

Not every wreath you put up has to be real, so consider this faux white pine number when you deck the halls ($35, Target).

“This wreath is a great deal because faux ones can get superpricey fast, and this isn’t a holiday item I like to break the bank on,” says Drew Henry, a home decor expert and founder of Design Dudes. He also digs that the wreath’s simple design still brings home the holiday cheer.

3. Keepsake box

Stash letters to Santa in this wooden treasure box.

Don’t just toss the holiday cards you receive in a random drawer! Honor them by picking up this keepsake box ($20, Target).

“Storing your treasures in a dedicated space allows you to look through them and reminisce, which is why I love a box like this,” says Novak.

4. Milk and cookies set

The classic font and minimalist design make this pair a keeper.

Henry picks this ultracute cookie plate and milk mug for the night when Santa Claus comes to town ($20, Target).

“It’s a little expensive for what it is, but when it comes to holiday decor items like this, it’s all about the memories they make, and this would be a great little set for kids to put out for Santa,” he says.

5. Kids’ play stick horse

This wooden equine will inspire lots of pretending.

Quality wood toys are levels above plastic, so lean hard on this line’s kiddie selections.

Julie Coraccio, the organizing guru at Reawaken Your Brilliance, picks this stick horse as a gift for the holidays ($30, Target).

“I love it because it encourages play and imagination and might get kids to put down their electronics,” she says.

6. Bundt pan

This mold design produces impressive cakes.

A straight-sided Bundt pan is fine, but it might be time to upgrade your holiday sweets with this option. This textured pan ($25, Target) is ideal if you bake a lot or have a baker on your shopping list.

“It’s practical but it also has some panache,” says Coraccio.

7. Soap and lotion gift set

Pretty containers and luscious scents = a winner

Yankee swaps, hostess gifts, and your hard-to-shop-for sister-in-law—all will be covered in an instant with a soap and lotion set ($13, Target).

Coraccio favors this type of present because it’s practical and won’t become clutter (use it up—and recycle the bottles).

Now, let’s take a look at the items our experts recommend passing on.

1. Letters to Santa mailbox

Do you really need a dedicated mail box?

Our experts said meh to this letterbox that can really only be used around Christmastime ($40, Target).

“I like the idea of putting out letters to Santa, but this product doesn’t quite make sense to me—what’s wrong with the mailbox outside?” Henry says.

2. Home for the Holidays doormat

The price may be right, but the design is still ho-hum.

For Henry, this doormat ($13, Target) falls a little flat in terms of design.

“For a holiday mat, it doesn’t feel very cheerful and it’s almost too plain and boring,” he says. Even worse, the message is rather obvious.

“If I’m coming to your house for a holiday party, chances are I know you’re home!”

3. Glaze stoneware mug

Don’t bother with yet another mug on your rack.

Sure, it’s appealing to drink cocoa from a big-handled mug ($5, Target), but how many coffee cups like this do you need?

Novak believes that most people have a cupboard stashed to the brim with mugs, so you can walk right past this item.
